What you can do on RosterBound
Your athlete builds the profile. You're there to protect it and help it get seen. As a parent or legal guardian, you can:
- Approve (or withdraw approval for) publishing your athlete's profile if they're under 18.
- Hide their hometown and social media handles from the public profile.
- Follow their progress: profile completion, coach views, target schools and follow-ups.
- Choose which coach endorsements appear on their profile.
- Help share their profile with college coaches.
RosterBound is free for athletes and families. No credit card, no subscription, no paid tiers, no pay-to-be-seen.
1. How RosterBound protects your athlete
- Profiles start private. Every new profile is a Draft. Only the athlete, their accepted advocates and RosterBound staff can see it.
- Staff review every profile before it goes public.
- Under 18? You decide. A profile can't be published until a parent or legal guardian approves it.
- Some things are never public: date of birth, email, phone, transcript, detailed recruiting information, target schools and outreach.
- Contact details go only to verified coaches. Only college coaches RosterBound has verified, the athlete's own verified high school or club coach and RosterBound staff can see contact information.
- No direct messaging. College coaches send a recruit request. RosterBound never shares a minor's contact details with anyone who isn't verified.
2. Accept your invite
Your athlete invites you from their dashboard. You'll get an email from RosterBound.
- Open the email and click the invite link.
- New to RosterBound? Create an account with the same email the invite was sent to.
- Already have an account? Click Log in on the invite page (or Continue with Google). The invite is accepted as soon as you sign in.
- You'll land on your Advocate Dashboard, listed as their Parent / Legal guardian.
3. Approve publishing
The Approve publishing card lists everything a public profile can show, what is hidden, and what is never public. Read it first.
- Tick the box to confirm you're the parent or legal guardian and that you approve.
- Type your full name.
- Click Approve publishing.
Staff still review the profile before it goes public. You can click Withdraw approval at any time, which returns the profile to private.
4. Privacy controls
Two switches sit under the approval card:
- Show hometown: off hides your athlete's city and state from the public profile.
- Show social media handles: off hides their X and Instagram handles.
If your athlete's bio mentions something you've hidden (for example their city), you'll see a warning. Ask RosterBound staff to regenerate the bio through the Contact Us page.
5. Follow their progress
Click Recruiting Progress on your dashboard for a view-only look at:
- Who's Looking: profile views and how many came from verified college coaches.
- Highlight videos they've uploaded.
- Level Fit and their target schools list, with follow-ups that are due.
You can't change anything here. Your athlete owns their recruiting.
Coach endorsements
When their high school or club coach endorses them and RosterBound staff approve it, the endorsement appears on your dashboard. Click Show on profile or Hide from profile to choose whether the public sees it.
6. Help them share
Once the profile is public, you'll see the same Share my profile tools your athlete has: Copy link, Email a coach, Share on X and Download QR code. The panel also shows how many times the profile was viewed in the last 30 days. Sharing from your own accounts helps, especially with coaches and contacts you know personally.
7. The recruiting timeline
Your athlete's dashboard gives them a few tasks each month, matched to their graduation year. A few you can help with:
- NCAA Eligibility Center: athletes aiming for NCAA Division I or II need to register (eligibilitycenter.org). Their NCAA ID goes in the private Recruiting Info section.
- Transcripts and test scores: keep a current PDF transcript ready to upload.
- Free evaluation: a RosterBound evaluator reviews film, stats and academics and says which levels fit. Encourage them to request it once the profile is complete.
- Camps and showcases: add upcoming events to their schedule so coaches know where to see them.
Tips
- Support, don't take over. Coaches want to hear from the athlete. Help them draft emails, but let them send.
- Watch for red flags. Be cautious of "recruiting services" that charge to guarantee exposure or scholarships. No one can guarantee an offer.
- Keep the profile honest. Accurate numbers, with where they came from, build trust with coaches.
- Check in monthly. The calendar is a good conversation starter.
